TROP CAL HEAT Photo by Aaron Dougherty We admit it. Anytime we hit a patch of cold and gray, we sense the onset of seasonal affective disorder (SAD is the very apt acronym). While we’d love to hop a jet to Bali, the thought of a 20-hour plane ride doesn’t really make us feel any better. Instead, we order an arrangement of happy tropicals. Flowers, be they a single bud or a grand bouque t, make us feel better any time of year, and after a month of red and green, January is a great month to showcase some really vibrant hues. Flowers on the Squaer in Fort Worth delivers with a bounty of blooms, including our favorites, ginger and heliconia, the vibrant lobster-claw lookalike. Orchids include dainty varieties: euphorbia in a creamy orange and the yellow oncidium. Gloriosa lilies, also known as the fire lily for their scarlet flamelike petals, add more splashes of color. Sculptural succulents anchor the arrangement. We feel better already .— Meda Kessler WHERE TO SHOP Flowers on the Square 4701 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, 817-336-8400, flowersonthesquareftworth.com
